Lissa Willcocks recently went through the Rite of Christian
Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program and was initiated by
Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil in St
Martin de Porres Church on Saturday April 4.
Lissa said she came to the program for her family, to support
her children through their journey of faith, but what she found
along the way were “the gifts of faith, hope, love and peace”.
“I have shared the gift of faith with my children, Skye (9) and
Ethan (8), who were baptised by Fr Peter Sheedy at a beautiful
ceremony on Pentecost Sunday,” she said.
Lissa’s RCIA journey began in September 2014 at an enquiry
night, suitably on the topic of prayer.
“Over time we learned about the Bible, Mass, the saints,
Christmas, Jesus and the Trinity, the sacraments, Easter and
social justice,” she said.
“We learnt by sharing our thoughts and feelings about scripture
and relating this to our faith and everyday life.
“Our RCIA leaders always answered our questions and guided
us through prayer.”
Lissa said she was fortunate to be part of the St Ann’s,
Brighton and Hallett Cove interparish RCIA group which
provided a bigger group of leaders for support and peers with
whom to share the journey.
“The RCIA team were always welcoming and accepting of our
individual differences,” she said.
“The highlight of my journey was receiving the Sacraments of
Initiation at the Easter Vigil alongside my fellow catechumens
Chloe and Jim. It was wonderful to share this celebration with
members of the parish, family and friends.”
