The Holy Year of Mercy will be marked by
several jubilees as part of the yearlong
extraordinary event starting in December.
The Vatican has unveiled the logo, prayer
and details of the Holy Year of Mercy
to include celebrations for consecrated
men and women (February 2), the Roman
Curia (Feb 22) and a jubilee for prisoners
Pope Francis in March announced the
Holy Year of Mercy – which will run until
November 2016 – as a way for the Church
to “make more evident its mission to be a
witness of mercy”.
The motto is ‘Merciful like the Father’
and the logo features Jesus – the Good
Shepherd – carrying the lost soul,
demonstrating that the love of Christ
brings to completion the mystery of his
incarnation culminating in redemption.
The image, created by Jesuit Father Marko
Rupnik, depicts one of Jesus’ eyes merged with the man’s to show how “Christ
sees with the eyes of Adam, and Adam with the eyes of Christ”.

CEOs HELP OUT: More than $528,000 has been raised so far from the St Vincent de
Paul Society Inc (SA) CEO Sleepout held in June. More than 80 business and community
leaders (pictured) braved a cold winter’s night in Victoria Square to raise awareness and
funds for the 100,000 men, women and children who sleep rough across Australia each
night. BankSA chief executive Nick Reade had raised more than $163,000 at the time of
publication. “It was inspiring to see so many of South Australia’s industry leaders sleep
out to support the work of St Vincent de Paul Society,” said Vinnies (SA) CEO David Wark.
