Fr Marin sprinkled water over the car and on the drivers as part of the ceremony held in Mary MacKillop Plaza adjacent to the St Francis Xavier's Cathedral. Fans gathered around to watch the blessing and get autographs from the drivers. The restored Colours of the 43rd Battalion have once again taken pride of place above the eastern entrance to St Francis Xavier's Cathedral after being cleaned and restored. The Colours, which were formally laid up in the Cathedral in 1964, were rededicated on March 6 by Archbishop Philip Wilson. "When people come into the Cathedral and look at the plaque on the porch and lift their eyes up to these colours that are so beautifully preser ved, they may remember...that these events were carried out by real people like ourselves who responded at a time when the nation needed their help," Archbishop Wilson said. He said the problem with histor y was forgetfulness and that it became impersonal. "So today as we remember and we look at these colours and overcome the difficulties of forgetfulness and the impersonal nature of histor y, we remember all of those who stood by these Colours and for whom these Colours were not just pieces of coloured cloth, but rather a symbol of the best values that they had in their lives of what they came to share...," he said. "And as we do that, we remember that all of this is done against the background of the great colour of God Jesus Christ who stands before us as the symbol of all the love and power that God has brought into the world to save us. "God reaches into the midst of all that we experience in the world, both good and bad and is present to us and helps us in our lives."
