www.thesoutherncross.org.au The Southern Cross February 2012 Page 9 A visit from the Apostolic Nuncio in Australia, the presentation of an Aboriginal message stick and the launch of a video message to young people were among the highlights of Archbishop Philip Wilson's 10th anniversary as bishop of Adelaide in December. At the 10th anniversary Mass held on the feast of St Francis Xavier in the Cathedral on December 3, the Archbishop was presented with the message stick by Kaurna elder David Copley and with a hand-crafted iron cross by the Director of Centacare Catholic Family Services, Dale West. On December 6 the Archbishop delivered his message "You Matter, Absolutely" to young people. The letter encourages young people to continue their social justice commitment and calls them to be leaders for our world and church. (To view the video and full letter, visit www.cathyouthadelaide. org.au) Young people at the launch presented Archbishop Wilson with his own Facebook page. On December 9 members of Adelaide's multicultural communities and others gathered at the Vietnamese Catholic Centre to celebrate Mass during which Monsignor David Cappo presented the Archbishop with a new epsicopal ring featuring an engraved image of Our Lady. The Apostolic Nuncio, His Excellency Most Reverend Giuseppe Lazzarotto, addressed the congregation and congratulated the Archbishop. A social gathering afterwards included an anniversary cake, music and special gifts from various countries and cultures. Archbishop Wilson said he was "overwhelmed" by the celebrations and grateful for all the "wonderful gifts" he received. Happy anniversary news |
