Amongst them is Cardijn College's Madeleine Juhrmann (ninth from left). Cardijn principal Paul Rijken said Madeleine had been a fundamental driving force for positive change within the Cardijn community since Year 8. She had been a student leader, House Captain, worked with Fred's Van feeding the homeless, a passionate supporter of the students with disabilities, a champion for the environment and following her Year 12 studies travelled overseas to work in an orphanage. "She is a true advocate for those who are marginalised in our community" he said. "Her outstanding academic results coupled with her leadership and actions to make this world a better place made Madeleine a worthy recipient of the award." Five other Catholic students -- Adam Luciano, Katherine O'Connell, Eleanor Wardleworth, Brigid O'Farrell White and Carmela Panuccio -- received the inaugural award. They were featured in the February issue of The Southern Cross.
