Page 20 September 2012 www.thesoutherncross.org.au The Southern Cross | in the parishes Crossword No. 134 Crossword No. 134 The parish of St John Bosco and St Aloysius at Brooklyn Park and Richmond last month offered a Mass of Thanksgiving for present, past and deceased members of the Catholic Women’s League Brooklyn Park branch. The branch is closing after 36 years of support to the parish. The branch began after the then State Diocesan President of the CWL, Nell Kain, came to a meeting of parishioners to explain what the League was all about. Eight ladies turned up to this first meeting, 15 to the second and by the end of the first year there were 22 members. President of the Adelaide Archdiocese CWL, Josie Frost, said Brooklyn Park was one of several CWL branches to close this year, others being Gawler, Para Hills and the Barossa. She said it was a beautiful service at Brooklyn Park and the branch had clearly made a difference to the lives of others. CLERGY CONVENTION: Six Adelaide priests, including Monsignor John Swann (pictured above), were among more than 160 members of the National Council of Priests of Australia who attended a week-long conference in Warrnambool recently. Guest speakers included well known UK priest and author Father Timothy Radcliffe and Sydney journalist and lecturer Chris McGillion. At the Conference dinner a number of priests were recognised for their contribution to the Church, including Fr Tony Redden who died recently – a former Chairman of NCP, and this was the first Convention for many years where he was not present. Tribute was also paid to Bishop Pat Power of Canberra, who recently retired, for his readiness to face the hard questions, to support people on the fringe and for his pastoral care of fellow priests. Father Alfred Farrugia has been formally accepted as a permanent priest into the Adelaide Archdiocese three years after arriving in Adelaide as an order clergyman from Malta. Fr Farrugia, who belonged to the Missionary Society of Saint Paul, was recently incardinated to the Adelaide diocese by Archbishop Philip Wilson.
